Like many people, I search the internet for better ways of doing things. Just the other day I was looking for laundry hacks. I am a fan of working smarter not harder. A thought then lit my head like a lightbulb. What if I discussed some of my life hacks? Not laundry or cleaning ones, but the ones that make me feel better. Here we go.
Feeling overwhelmed. Over the years I have learned to balance many plates. I have also committed to many projects along with my regular workday. I make a list called the 5 things. I adopted this idea a few years ago when I didn’t know which task to complete first. I took the most important to the least that had to be done. It looked something like this:
1. Get the groceries.
2. Change the check at the bank.
3. Do a load of laundry.
4. Bake the cake.
5. Set a reminder for tomorrow’s appointment.
You get the idea. I found by jotting it down and by not adding too much to my agenda, I got more accomplished. For myself when I complete a few tasks, it motivates me to do a few more.
I give myself a day off. I do this now and then. There will be weeks where I will run around like a chicken without a head and just be so busy. Before I feel myself getting exhausted, I designate a day off. It’s usually a Sunday when I will relax and take time to recuperate. This is my downtime. This is healthy and I do it. I have to admit it’s one of my favorite hacks.
Taking a project in pieces. I learned this one on my own when I had to move. I was daunted by the overwhelming amount of packing. So, I decided to take it in steps. First, I purged. The more I got rid of the emptier the rooms became. Then each night I would pack a box. It was so much easier to do it that way. When moving day arrived, it went so smoothly.
These are little strategies that I learned. Try to think outside the box and come up with your own. Hacks can make life easier for all. Write down some of your favourite hacks in the comments section. I would love to hear from you. Until next time stay well.
